During the "Fathers Day Weekend" I spent a bit of time on the "Master Bath Reno"
I noticed the original light fixture above the sink... although I did not like the color, the fixture it's self, was not too bad, but it needed up dating.

It was Gold and the glass covers were printed with flowers and so yellow with age!
"Why take it down" I thought? I'm one to go to a thrift store,, hey, "I have an old light fixture"
"RE-Do-IT-DUMMIE!"
I went to Walmart and bought 4 new glass globes, and some pewter spray paint..
First I went about taping news paper all around the ceiling and down the mirror... Then I washed the fixture the best I could...Then started 'shaking the spray paint' while I said a prayer!
"Lord please don't let me paint everything around the bathroom"
I was sure to turn off the ceiling fan and put old towels on the counter top below.

I even thought of putting tape over the electrical hole (where we put the light bulbs)
It was much easier than I first thought. The spray paint went on very even and smooth.
Know what? I did it!

I carefully removed the news paper and tape, and I could not believe my eyes! It really looked good!
Then I put on the new "Glass covers", and I think I just saved myself more than a few dollars by not buying a new light fixture.
The best part, I did not have to go to the trouble of "Turning off the electric, or taking down the fixture"

I really need a new camera! Think someone who loves me would get me one?
Oh well,,, you all get the idea.. this light fixture turned out really great!
It even "Looks New"!

Rondell
WOW! You did a fabulous job.
ReplyDeletelooks fabulous. amazing what a can of paint can do! You are brave painting it indoors too. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYay!! That looks perfect, and now I know that I can do the same. I have wanted to paint several here, but I had been putting it off because of the steps involved in taking it down and putting it up.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the smallest change in a room can make the biggest difference! Good for you! Thanks for showing it to us on Modern Craftswoman Monday! Rory
ReplyDeletesigh, that looks so flippin good now! i need a new light fixture in my bathroom so bad! there is no fixing mine, tho, but great job on yours!!
ReplyDeletewhat ever happened to your post about the russian guy? what do we think of him?
oh, and in my first pic the cat was peeking out of the mail bin.
This turned out very NICE!!
ReplyDeletePainting it in place! That is so like something I would do! You really updated this fixture and saved yourself some money, too. Win win! It looks great.
ReplyDeleteThat's incredible. It really looks like you DID buy a new one!
ReplyDeleteThat came out amazing, period, and that's not only thrifty, but one last thing in the landfill.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a difference that made. I looks like a brand new fixture. Keep lookin' for that little area in your home to put a studio. Thanks so much for dropping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteDenise
What a great transformation! It looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I have been wanting to refresh my dining room chandelier - I think I will spray paint it and get some globes of some kind. Can't wait to try it.
ReplyDeleteWow~totally updated!
ReplyDeleteI have the same light fixture, only in oil rubbed bronze. I'm pretty sure I'll be painting it in a few years. I'll have to remember this! Not taking it down had to be easier in the long run.
Well done!
This looks so great! I never think of painting a fixture like this~ it looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAren't you proud of yourself for "recreating" this light fixture? It looks wonderful. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI love this project. I talked about something similar on my blog. Do you mind if I add a link to your post at the end of mine? I'd like my readers to see your creativity! Here's the post I'm referring to:

Thanks for stopping by my blog! To answer your question...No, we didn't stretch it on top of canvas. We just built a wooden frame out of scrap wood, stretched the fabric over the edges, and stapled it onto the back. Your light fixture turned out great by the way!
ReplyDeleteGreat makeover! I am visiting from Domestically Speaking.
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful transformation, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteThis one would be great to link to Time Travel Thursday, too.
Hope you link in each week to any, or all, of my parties.
Have a great weekend!

You did a great job!!! I've been wanting to try this for my "gold" light fixture! I wanna paint it black. thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a completely new fixture! Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteRobin :o)
That is fabulous. I love your ingenuity. I look at things and see the beauty in what they could be and it is so much more satisfying to create somehting new out of something old than just go buy the new. LOVE it.
ReplyDeleteHolly
Great re-do! I've been seeing so many great "refabs" with spray paint, gotta start giving it a try!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration!
