We have had quite a few weeks of rain and they say it's only going to get worse as the next week comes. I went out to see how the flowers on my deck were taking all the wind, rain and ucky heat we have had and I saw snails on everything.
The Hoya had some really nice blooms. I'm happy to say the snails did not like the taste and moved on to more appealing greenery.
Then I saw how happy the Poinsettias were out in all that weather. I kept two left over from the holidays and put them in a large pot. They grow wonderful here in Florida and you can see many very large bushes in neighboring yards. These will go out back if the rain ever stops and somehow right on que as Christmas approaches they will start to bloom their beautiful red color.
That is if the snails don't eat them all gone!
Didn't I read somewhere this plant was poison? It's not killing the snails!
I do know there is a Snail Bait product on the market, to kill these little pests but my yard is completely organic and green... I just can't kill anything unless I use a natural product. I have said in previous posts my yard is registered with National Wildlife Federation and is a Backyard Habitat. So these little buggers get to eat my plants!
Then I saw nothing but stems left on my parsley.
The rain is to continue were were told. A tropical something will be coming next week and also there is another system in the Atlantic and NOAA said to "Watch this One".
Guess I should smile about this because I will not be in Florida for the next month.
I'm flying to Oklahoma to spend some much needed time with my three grandsons who finally came back to the States. If I'm lucky I might get to feel Fall as it comes into the Midwest in September.
I'm so happy!
While in OKC I'll try to take a few moments to gather some photos and do a post or two on my visit.
Stay dry everyone and have a great transition into Fall!
I'll be linking up to
(((hugs)))
That is some large snails! We only have the little ones that leave magical trails of sparkly silver something! lol. Where are you in Florida? should I leave for Georgia now?? I don't like tropical storms, we had our roof entirely blown off in a hurricane and I'm sensitive now to large winds. But I do love rain for the plants. I've planted all my poinsettias too and hoping they bloom for Xmas. I am a Broward Certified Yard too....but I think I must renew it....must look into it again. :D
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy~
ReplyDeleteIck! on the snails. Backyard habitat or not... those are icky. LOL!
While you're away- they will be munching on your plants.
I guess you know this.
Oklahoma is not too far north of us-- hope you get to experience some Fall temps and take in some beautiful seasonal changes!
Have fun with your grandsons. Pat
yep, Pem Pines, or Pembroke Shire! as I like to refer to it lol.....and a few of my family moved from Miami to Clearwater, now to Georgia. They loved Clearwater best too....forgot the main point of commenting here, a power outage just shut everything down and now I can't remember :D....till next time...stay cool.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are fabulous Sandy! You are so talented! Angie xo
ReplyDeleteThose are some great pictures. Wish we had snails like that around. How cool!

I don't know about you, but I love the look of snails - it's the slugs that are gross! Your pix, espec. of the big snail in little puddle is superb....
ReplyDeleteRain...? What is this that you call rain? It has been so long here I'm not sure I remember what it looks like. It has been a long hot dry summer here. So glad you have some rain. Blessings, Debbie

ReplyDeleteOh those snails are great acrobats! Imagine they were able to reach the hoya which is already hanging from the roof! Am glad they didn't like it, and they didn't seem to get tired, still went on devouring. Fortunately, we dont have much of them here!
ReplyDeleteIt seems you have a snail's paradise there! They certainly seem to be enjoying your garden, and obviously the white sap in the Poinsettia isn't causing them any problems whatsoever. Your Hoya blooms look spectacular though. Enjoy your break.
ReplyDeleteWe are watching the weather too. Plenty rain in N. Florida as well. Any slugs? Poinsettias are not poisonous, it may cause a tummy ache though. It is also very bitter, not many critters will eat it.
ReplyDeleteI think you are right, the rain do bring out the snails. They polished whole plants in my garden like my gorgeous zinnias, sunflowers and my colourful foliage plants. They are able to scale great heights. I go out in the garden at night, armed with a torch light just to catch them and I find this very effective in eliminating their population. I am into natural pest control too.
