Sofa Throw

Christmas may be months away but I'm going to be ready!  I've been working on so many projects.
This one is a "Sofa Throw" for one of my daughters.  She asked for one months ago and I only now was able to get to it.  Her colors are browns,  tans, seafoam, a bit of green and blue... A rainbow of greens and blues.

The fabrics are assorted weights.. I like to have different finishes, shiny along with simple cottons.  Gina asked for some sequins but I thought better (she has three small boys, imagine the fun they will have pulling those)....

This is my idea of a pattern.. a guide of sorts, although the finished product is not exact.

This quilt I did correctly,,, ironed the seams as I went along....(something I don't usually do).

I also added one square with  her family initial in  cross stitch.

Once the design was completed, the batting and backing put together I found my favorite easy chair, turned on the TV and away I went with the  quilting.. It took me the better part of 4 days to complete the hand quilting.  They were rainy days so that kept me home to complete this project.

As you can see I had no special design in mind for the quilting.. I just stitched in loopie designs.....

As usual I added my "Made by" label. Using my little sharpie and a piece of muslin.

 Another Christmas project finished...
We have been stuck indoors this past week with so much rain.. maybe it will hold off this next week to give me a chance to pull some weeds?
I'll be linking to these  parties

Monday

Tropical Downpour

Went to the airport to pick up "Mr. N" this morning. Look what met me at the start of the 14 mile Causeway...

All I could think of was.. "OMG", here it comes!
I dread the "Tropical Downpours" we have here in SoFla. I usually avoid driving in them, but had no choice today.

One thing in my favor, no traffic at 10 am.
Would have been horrible a few hours earlier.  Today was the first day of the school year in our area.
Normal rush hour traffic is bumper to bumper on this road.

Then I drove right into it!
I was so busy paying attention to my driving I forgot to snap another photo, of the rain!

Picture this.... Two hands on the steering wheel,  35 mph, wipers at double time, blinding tropical downpour  all the way home from TIA, and Mr. N. backseating! Fun!
Sigh of relief... I made it!

I'm Grateful to have made it home so I'm linking to Heidi's "Gratitude Wednesday's" linkie party

photos

This entire week it has been HOT here in SoFla.. My hair is frizzy when I go out.. Humid is not the word for the air.. more like a heavy dew? The trees are weeping and the ground is steaming.
I've been inside, sitting in my favorite chair doing a quilt... hand stitching....  One of the many Christmas gifts I've been working on.  It's raining today, Thank you Lord, we need it to cool off the area!

I don't have a craft or anything else to post today, so I thought I'd post some photos that do not require words.... My friend sent these to me.  He did not say where they came from so I don't have anyone to 'give credit to'...

Enjoy!

Monday

My new kitchen table

I spent the morning painting a table I found on the side of the road.. it was in such great shape.. wonderful heavy wood and it has a  butcher block  table top! The only real work was having to buy some screws to fit, then put the table together... the (tossers) people took it apart before they tossed it. (imagine they took it apart?)

The chairs were finds at  Walmart  on a great mark down.. $7.95... There were only 5 chairs left so I bought 4 of them.  They have been in the boxes out in my store room for a few months, and were really easy to put together. I also painted them white to match.. not bad for a set!

I need to get some glaze for the next step.. sometime this week.
It's been so hot here in SoFla, they said the index is 110 today, but it's the "steamy" thing going on.. and I'm like a mole staying in the a/c.  So I did the painting in the kitchen... no way would I survive outside!

Once I get the seat cushions made I'll post the reveal....
I so love it when I find such great furniture pieces...  grand total about $36.00 for the set!

Big Smile here!

Only 4 months till....

You guessed it... "Christmas".

I know, I know, you don't want to hear about "Christmas" while "It's hot and sticky out",  but you know as well as I,  how fast it sneaks up on us. Now is the time to start all those crafty projects.

I started some "Christmas Ornaments" for my kids... "Cross Stitch" has been my constant companion for the past week.. another project will be joining me in the Doctors waiting room tomorrow.

I'll tell you about this one another time

"My garage sale find"

I found a "Cross Stitch Kit" at a garage sale about two months ago, for all of .50cents and thought "It's time to get started with all the little things that take time"....

The nice part, these little 'rounds' are fast and easy... the only change I made was  adding my grandsons names to them... then I used some left over fabric for the backing, put batting in the center of each and zigged around with the sewing maching.. simple enough!  Oh, I also put some red twine inside for the ornament hanger.

A bit of ribbon for decoration... that should be it!  Ready to store away for the "Xmas Box" that will be mailed in November to "Guam".
I've got about 6 different Christmas projects in the works and really like the idea of starting months before December rolls around.. You know how it is when the "Season" is staring us in the face and were not ready....

So, get out your needles ladies.. time to work on "Christmas"

Saturday

cool off

This past few weeks it's been so hot in my area and I keep thinking of the winter and how much I wanted it go 'Go Away', and for summer to get here.   I got my wish and walking outside is like walking into a tropical rain forest... the dew point here in So. Florida has been in the high 80's. The temperature has been in the high 90's... the leaves on the trees are weeping...

For all that are suffering the "Heat Wave" around the Country and the World.....

Here are a few "Feel Good Cool off Moments"

"Enjoy"

If you sit and stare at the photos of the "Snow" it will help cool you off, at least in our minds!

    Have a great cool Sunday!

Zebra Plant

Three years ago my good friend "Ingrid" gave me this tiny little house plant. A "Zebra" plant... it had only one flower and my being a "Transplanted Northerner" I always thought "It belonged in the house".... but I put it out on the deck about two years ago and found it loves Florida weather!  This week I noticed it blooming once again.. this year it had two blooms!  It's flowers come out twice a year.

"Ingrid" passed away, two years this September,  just three months from being diagnosed with  "Pancreatic Cancer"... So' as you might guess, "this plant is very special to me".

I find myself covering it when it rains too much, or taking it out of the sun when it's much too hot. I'll do almost anything to keep my "Zebra Plant" healthy.

A few weeks after "Ingrid" died her husband told me "I could have anything I wanted" from her garden.. this little "Garden Sign" was all I wanted... "Ingrid" did,  "Plant Kindness and Harvest Love".

I think this year I'll re-pot my "Zebra Plant"... a larger pot.   I'll go find some really nice, unusual pot to display it's beauty,, maybe next year she will give me "Three Flowers".......

Pruning the trees...

The Lawn care guys came into my yard this week,  on a very hot summer day.  The temp at the time was 98' and the index was at 105'.  They worked hard for several hours to do a bit of pruning... the palm trees were over grown and needed a hair cut.
They all laughed at me for following them with my camera.  But I was a good person and passed out cold water and peach pie. Then when they were finished and all looking like they were going to pass out,  I turned on the sprinkler for them..  Quick way to "Cool Off"!

Love that "Chain Saw"

Then they "Cut down" an over grown "Weed" that was the size of a "Tree"

Then it all went into the "Grinder"... that was loud to say the least!

I can see the "Creek" and a "Stump"

The guys left me a good piece of "Stump"... need to even off the top and use it for a planter, somewhere in the yard!

And  "How was your week"!

I'm linking up to this weeks outdoor and garden parties
