Once again I'm back at it.

Before I go any further I have to tell all of you "Counter Tops"
are so expensive and it's just not in the budget right now.
After speaking to the Home Depot Guy about "What can I do
to update the old yellow laminate counter top, he told me of
a counter paint.
Being the skeptic that I am, it was a worry to me to paint the countertop.
But the HD Guy said "He knew many people who used this paint
and they were pleased with the results"! What the heck! What do
I have to loose but $14.99 for the can? I could always get a new counter top later, if it turned out horrible... So, I gave it a try.
Following the directions to the "T".. I first scrubbed the counter,
dried well and went to it with a foam roller brush... it went on very
smooth and did not bubble or streak. Was like painting a wall.
I chose a "Light Grey" color.. thinking it would blend in with my blue
and white theme....
Look how it turned out.....
I then bought some PVC wall molding, to fill in the gaps between the
counter and the wall... I cut the lengths to fit and "low and behold"
I mitered the corner perfectly!
Using an adheasive, clear caulk
I glued it on, using a few little nails to hold it in place.
I took a step back and said to myself "Did I do this"?
With my "New Sink and Faucet", it looks wonderful!
It has been a week now, I gave it the recommended time to 'cure'
(three days). I am using the counter top now, very carefully and
I'm happy to say the depo guy was right, it is smooth, tough and
really feels good. I am going to not cut on it and will be really
careful with it until I'm sure of it's toughness....
For now,, "I'm completely happy with the results".
For all of you with ugly laminate countertops...
don't be afraid, go ahead and "Paint it"
(did I tell you it was only $14.99)
Now to make my way upstairs to do the bathroom counter top. That is
for another day (when the kitchen is finished)

Your kitchen countertop looks wonderful and the info is so timely. We are getting ready to paint our kitchen and can't afford to replace our tourquoise countertops.

I have so many redo's that are unfinished and this post has motivated me. Light switch covers and little odds and ends that need to be finished up are on my list of "to dos".
The countertop paint is interesting. Any suggestions on sprucing up an ugly 1970's fireplace??
I have 1983 countertops, they are an ugly yellow, I'd love to try this! Yours look so good and really smooth looking too!

Sandy, I am so impressed by this post, as I am with all of your projects! I so wish you lived nearby and could give me tips and insight into remodeling here. We kinda sorta blew the remodeling budget with my health misadventures, so we'll have to wait awhile, but the paint sounds like something I could afford. I love the way it turned out!

It turned out great. Wow. I did not know they had such a paint. Big difference. I will be working on my kitchen this upcoming week. Wish me luck!
Sandy! WOW! I saw this stuff the last time I was in home depot and wondered if it really worked because you see I updated my kitchen, but didn't update the countertops for the exact same reason...$$$. I've got to many other projects to do first! I just might have to try this and see how it goes. Thanks for sharing. I'll send you some notes later on how we got started on those built-ins!

How does the paint react to heat? I don't set really hot stuff on my counter tops, but sometimes I do set medium hot things on them.

It looks great! I just did mine and posted the tutorial as well! I wanted a granite look so I did some sponge painting. I am like you, if it didn't turn out or last long, it is still better than what I had before!! Great job!

I went to my Home Depot to check out the countertop paint this weekend, but it was $20!! Sad day :(
I only have a small counter space to do, so I might end up not doing this. But before I saw the price of the paint at my local HD I was totally in!!

Hi Sandy, That paint worked great! I have another blogger friend who just did the same thing. I might give this a try in one of our bathrooms. Every countertop in all the baths and the kitchen was done in the same pattern~which is just bizarre to me!! Thanks for the comment about the 180fx formica in my kitchen.
That looks fantastic. I attempt to paint my kitchen counters but I'm afraid they won't hold up to the wear and tear I put into the kitchen.
I totally thought the same think when the HD guy told me about the paint, so I walked off. I have teh 1970's Yellow as well. I am going to convince my husband to try it. Thanks.
