Sunday Morning feels good moment...

"Shirley Goodnest and Marcy"

A mom was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school. He didn't want his mother to walk with him. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe. So she had an idea of how to handle it.
She asked a neighbor if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he probably wouldn't notice her. The neighbor said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed. The next school day, the neighbor and her little girl set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor girl he knew. She did this for the whole week.
As the two walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy's little friend noticed the same lady was following them as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally she said to Timmy, 'Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week? Do you know her?' Timmy nonchalantly replied, 'Yeah, I know who she is.' The little girl said, 'Well, who is she?'
'That's just Shirley Goodnest,' Timmy replied, 'and her daughter Marcy.' 'Shirley Goodnest? Who the heck is she and why is she following us? 'Well,' Timmy explained, 'every night my Mom makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, 'cuz she worries about me so much. And in the Psalm, it says, 'Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life', so I guess I'll just have to get used to it!'

May "Shirley Goodnest and Marcy" be with you today and always.
I know you smiled! I sure did!

Chair find...

Did you ever drive down the street and need to slam on your brakes only to look into your rear-view mirror to see a long line of cars behind you?
Well today, early morning, I found myself doing just that!

Look what was sitting on top of a garbage pile!

Is this not the sweet'st thing you have ever seen!

The long line of cars behind me forced my car around the block to circle once more.. I had to put a bit of speed into it, "Lord don't let anyone else get it"!
Then I noticed a few motorcycle police hiding in the bushes so I had to slow it down and not look like a nut trying to get around the corner too fast!
Well "I made it", in the drizzle rain, I jumped out of my car and put this sweet, dirty, wet chair in the back seat... I'm sure much to the humor of the other drivers!
I got her home and stood in the rain with the silly'st smile on my face!  "I got it"!!

I peeled off a few layers of peeling veneer to find really nice wood...
Although it had no seat to speak of, I do have a scrap of plywood to cut a new one...
I'm so excited and will share the 'remake' of this sweet find with you another time.
Look at her! She needs to be my new sewing table chair, or maybe in the guest room?

Does not take much to "Make me happy"!  To be continued......

Creeping Moss...... How To!

Have you ever seen 'Creeping Moss' growing on trees, rocks, bricks and terracotta flower pots, and wanted some,,, hard thing to buy I know... I can tell you how to make your own grow and flourish in your garden! The photo above is my big "Hickory Tree" and last year I painted it with Yogurt..... yes Yogurt!

I simply bought a container of 'plain yogurt', took a paintbrush and went around my yard.. picked out choice rocks, flowerpots and a few trees... painted the yogurt on, and within the year the "Moss" was growing!

Moss doesn’t really put roots into the soil or surface underneath it so much as anchor itself to the soil or surface using a rudimentary structure called a rhizoid. Moss can grow on trees, rocks, soil, sand, roofs, old gym shoes, foam rubber, old rugs etc. but moss cannot grow or attach itself to a smooth surface because there is nothing to grip. Once I found Brachythecium salebrosum , a nice very thick carpeter creeping moss, growing on a smooth red clay brick in a dry stream bed. The frequent rains kept the salebrosum well hydrated and the moss hanging off the brick on the upstream side was positioned to brace itself against the rushing waters. Thinking that this moss had adhered to the brick, I lifted the brick and moss together and then carefully examining the moss found that it was not adhering or attaching to the brick at all, but instead just laying on the brick. Except when you are growing moss in containers you generally will want to use a soil or other surface that moss can grip.

The moss I grew seems to be laying on the surface of all the areas I painted the yogurt.

After 'painting' with yogurt try not to 'wash with the hose' for as long as possible,, several weeks if you can avoid it... then when watering your garden, 'do' get the yogurt spot wet.. it likes moisture and will grow very well!  Try to avoid 'sunny' spots, stick to the shady areas if you can... One of my 'Moss spots' is growing in about 4 hrs of sun a day...But remember, it likes water and often.

This was a trick my Mom taught me, many moons ago (her words not mine)...

Who knew?

"Happy Memorial Day" everyone... Fly your Flag proudly!
