Free stuff really turns me on, and when I find something made of wood, it's so hard for me to leave it on the side of the road. This wonderful side table might have gotten me into trouble the other day. I mean when I see something like this, out the corner of my eye, then just about slam on my brakes.. well, you know what I mean.
At this point in time I have no idea what to do with it or how to refinish it. It is weathered, but the wood is in great condition.
Notice the drawers are missing. I could remove the sliders and just add a bit of plywood to convert the spaces into cubby's? (I wish those who left it put the drawers out with it)
Really!
But then, "What do I expect for nothing"
(big smile here)
The 'piggy trivet', I could not leave that behind in the same trash.
At the moment it's out on my back deck. I go out there from time to time and just stand and look at it, wondering, should I paint it or just use a simple stain?
The original finish is long gone, but it shows a bit of distressed green... I'm thinking to do the legs with a soft green stain and maybe the rest of it in white?
There is a space in my master bath? Would look great with rolled bath towels where the wine bottle spaces are.
As you can tell, my brain is turning with so many ideas for this great side table.
What would you do to this delicious relic?
Leave your comments and let me know your ideas.
What will this piece morf into?
I'll post the finished product soon...
Wish me luck!

I would have thrown the brakes on for that also. I had the same thought as you, adding plywood for cubbies, lets see what everyone else comes up with!
have a great weekend!

Love the cubbie idea. Maybe just do a color wash in white on the top so you can still see the grain. Then white baskets. I'm liking the green so a soft green on the legs would look good.
I love that. The plywood to hold baskets is a great idea. A soft white with green would be perfect. Can't wait to see it when it's finished.
I've seen a lot of dressers with missing drawers made into little cubbies with baskets. One look I like is painted white on the bottom and stained on top. But I think green would be pretty too! I'm planning to paint a dresser sagey green and have about a million green paint chips to fine the perfect one. Good luck!
Cool find! And good luck w/ it, look forward to the finished product.
Oh, and I <3 your new header! It's so pretty!!!
What about....if you turned it upside down? It has a very nice rack on the bottom, you could hang
linens or hankies there, maybe some candle tapers...and use baskets for the drawers..maybe some dried herbs could be hung from the rungs....good find....
Oh I love it!!!!!!! Really love it... my first thought was to make into a wine rack and then my second thought was to make it a Potters bench... I cannot wait to see what you end up doing with it!!!!
I love the cubby idea too! Hmmm....you could do so many amzing things with this piece. I wonder what a piece of plexiglass would cost. Maybe turn it into a display cabinet of sorts.
Sandy, so how did it look upside down...did anything come to you? That is such a cool rack at the bottom...about the chimes...playlist.com I just typed in the search box. On my blog at the very end is the widget if you just want to click on that...:)
looking at it again, this time I looke at it upside down...how about a wine rack, or you could hang the glasses from the rack and store the wine in the cubbies....no I've had only coffee yet today....:)
To me, this is an ideal potting station. Painted a "white-washed" green, perhaps? Add a back to it with an old door and maybe a shelf so you could keep tools handy?
If you want use it for indoor storage in the laundry or bathroom, I could definitely see the use baskets in the areas where the drawers are missing. It's a great find, whatever you do with it!

I was also thinking potting bench, but it could easily organize craft supplies or school stuff. Great find.
I thought potting bench also. I've seen people cut out a circle and put a bowl in it (sort of like a makeshhift sink) in them. I like the green chippy paint. Makes me wonder what in the world ever happened to the drawers?
I am new here! Great site! Hope you'll come visit me too :)

Great Score. I love this. What about putting baskets where the drawers were and keeping it as a kitchen island?
What a find! So many possibilities. I would personally use it in my potting shed. I could sure put alot of stuff in those cubbies. I am going to become a new follower of your blog. Looks like you have a great eye for good stuff!
I love your piece. I would put wood in the drawer areas and make them cubbies and put cool baskets or wire baskets in there.
DecoArt has this cool product. If you go to my blog and click on the project in my side bar--The Window Box, you can see it. I LOVE that product and then you could enter this into the DIY competition too and possibly WIN a great prize package. This month the prize package is over $500. If you have another project that is done or you can get one done in time, you can enter this month.

Great project, I love the old feel it has. Nice work!
What a find! My first thought was potting bench too, like many other visitors. Weathered wood with faded green paint just screams garden to me, whether its in good condition or not. If it was at my house, I'd make it a grilling station, as I have just a small table top outdoor grill. Love your blog - found you via Cottage Instincts.
Came over from link party from tools are for women to... I love this piece. So many idea's running through my head. I would add plywood to the cubbies and fit them for drawer baskets turn that piece into a center island.
There are so mant places in a home that piece could be restyled for.

I would have slammed on the brakes too. Lucky you! I like your idea of cubbies. It would look so cute with baskets .Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Stopping by from Nifty Thrifty Tuesday to tell you how much I love that dresser! What a great find, drawers or not.
It would definitely make a great bathroom piece, maybe even a vanity?
I came over from link party from tools are for women to... I love this pieceand I agree to add plywood to the cubbies and them add baskets. It would make center island or entry table where you could drop your keys etc.
What a great piece! I could see this with gardening tools in the little cubbies and the top as a little potting bench if you decide to keep it outdoors..it kind of reminds me of a kitchen island too! I guess the possiblities are numerous! Really neat piece! Great find!

OMG! You and I must be separated at birth! I just wrote about a trashed table I found and made over (also linked up at Tools are for Women.) Anyway, I love your find! I would take out those drawer slides and cut a piece of plywood for the base of where the drawers used to be. Then find matching baskets for the openings. I do like the idea of rolled towels in the bottom and maybe some decorating magazines above that? Such potential, I can see it! Great find. Thanks for sharing.

I love that piece! I would use it as a kitchen island.
Love it and totally understand the brake for cool trash bit. lol
I've let a few pieces go and to this day regret letting wooden pieces go to the dump.
If you have space it would be sooo cool with bath towels and bath salts and lil treasures tucked around. I wouldn't fuss over it too much.
You are like me..I'm thinking of starting a meme, Waste Not Want Not Wednesday...come by and encourage me to do it.
